New procedures for staff who wear Uniform / Scrubs

Due to the high infection rates within our community, the Trust is introducing a number of NEW uniform procedures.

From Friday 23rd October:

ALL patient facing clinical and SOME non-clinical staff MUST only wear hospital uniform or scrubs when at work – any other form of workwear such as your own clothes are not permitted until further notice.

Please can staff adhere to the following rules:

Patient facing hospital staff including ALL clinical staff , security staff, social distancing stewards, maintenance staff,  porters, ward catering assistants and domestics

  • Staff must not wear hospital uniform/scrubs outside of the hospital – you must now travel to and from work in your own clothes and change into your uniform or scrubs at work.
  • Uniforms must be removed before leaving the hospital and transported in a separate disposable plastic bag and laundered at home as per the Trust laundry policy:
  • Launder daily on a separate wash at the highest temperature available on a domestic washing machine (minimum 60˚C). DO NOT add other clothing items to the load
  • For staff working in a high risk area, you must ONLY wear scrubs. Please wear one set of scrubs per shift, change if they become soiled.
  • Scrubs are to be left at the hospitals and cleaned by our laundry service The process is as follows:
  • Place used scrubs in white linen bag
  • Put this in disposal hold
  • The scrubs are then collected, cleaned and put back into circulation
  • Do not leave scrubs on the floor or anywhere else

Patient facing community staff

  • All staff undertaking work in community settings must wear hospital uniform when on duty (unless otherwise agreed for safety reasons)
  • This includes in patients’ homes, when travelling between patients’ homes and when in a clinical setting
  • Uniforms must be removed and laundered as soon as you arrive home after work
  • Staff are only allowed to wear uniform when on Trust business and not in any other areas eg. local shops or school grounds etc.

AFC Pay Progression Arrangements

In 2018, the reform of Agenda for Change introduced a new pay progression system which linked pay to performance. The current pay progression arrangements came into effect for any new staff due an increment from 1st April 2020.  This also includes staff promoted into a new role from 1st April 2019 who would also be due an increment in April 2020.   For all other staff in post before 1st April 2019, the current organisational pay progression procedures continue to apply until 31st March 2021. The pay progression framework means that in order to progress to the next pay point employees must meet the following standards:

1.            Appraisal process has been completed within the last 12 months and outcomes are in line with the organisation’s standards

2.            Not in a formal capability process

3.            No formal disciplinary sanction live on employment record

4.            Completed all required statutory and/or mandatory training

5.            If a line manager, must have completed all appraisals for staff as required

As we have now commenced the 2nd wave of Covid 19  the Trust has agreed that all staff due an increment in the next 6 months until the 31st March 2021 will their increment automatically processed with the exception of staff with a live disciplinary sanction on their record.
