SURGICAL MASKS FOR ALL NHS STAFF
Following Friday’s announcement that all NHS staff should wear surgical masks from 15th June.
The Trust is awaiting further clarification and guidance. We will share further information with all staff as soon as possible.
STAFF ANTIBODY TESTING
Clinical staff began testing colleagues today.
Please can staff carrying out the test remember to label the sample with 3 identifiers

Drop in clinic dates and times will be communicated as soon as possible please do not contact the Pathology Lab about this.
NO CHANGE TO VISITING RESTRICTIONS
Visitors are not permitted to the hospitals.
The only exceptions are one visitor for end of life care, birth partners, children’s wards and those requiring support due to mental health or learning disabilities (any exceptions should be discussed with the ward manager).
SOCIAL DISTANCING GUIDANCE FOR WARDS
Social distancing measures must be followed where possible on all wards
Please can staff ensure that entrance doors to all wards are secured at all times
Anyone who wishes to gain access to a ward should:
- In the first instance use the intercom or telephone
- They should be asked the reason why they need to enter the ward
- If they do enter the ward they should be met at the door and given the appropriate PPE
- If they do not need to enter the ward a staff member should go to assist them
ACCESS eLEARNING FROM HOME
Staff working from home can access Moodle (eLearning Platform) for Clinical Systems and Mandatory Training via the Trust WEBSITE.
NHS COVID HEROES
Since the beginning of the pandemic staff in the Microbiology Laboratory have worked tirelessly to ensure that patients and staff are tested.
They have produced thousands of sampling packs; processed over 2000 staff tests and nearly 10,000 patient tests.
They’ve also made sure that samples are packaged and transported safely as well as results issued in a timely manner.
Thanks to their hard work, the Whiston Microbiology Laboratory gained the first UKAS (United Kingdom Accreditation Service) accreditation awarded for COVID-19 PCR testing in the country.
Well done and a huge thank you to our Microbiology Laboratory Heroes!
