Staff Update 07/04/20

Today’s cabinet updates are below:

Staff testing:

The Trust has an easy to access staff testing process in place that is running 7 days a week:

  • Staff member or Line Manager completes a self-isolation form for staff member and/or family member
  • This is triaged within 24 hours
  • Where necessary a test will be offered the same or next day.

Staff Test results are communicated as follows:

Positive result:

HWWB contact staff member, inform them of positive result and advise them to follow national guidance re self-isolation

Negative result:

HWWB contact staff member, inform them of negative result and advise them to return to work

In both instances results are entered onto Cohort and HWWB inform staff member’s line manager of the result via email.

Family Member test results are communicated as follows:

Positive and Negative results are sent to admin staff in Outpatients

Admin staff telephone family member – contact details must be completed on the self-isolation form

Appropriate national guidance is shared with family member

Staff are reminded not to test themselves or their relatives.

Staff must not access their own results or results of friends/family as this is a breach of governance.

Scrubs:

Scrubs must only be worn in high risk and cohort areas.

Staff are requested to wear one set of scrubs per shift and only change if they become soiled.

Scrubs are to be cleaned by the Trust’s laundry service the process is as follows:

  • Put the scrubs in a red alginate bag and tie the top
  • Put the red bag inside in a white plastic linen bag and tie the top
  • Put this in disposal hold
  • The scrubs are then collected, cleaned and put back into circulation

Please do not leave scrubs on the floor or anywhere else.

Advice for staff wearing uniform or own clothes at work:

  • Just before leaving work clean your hands
  • Go straight home, do not visit shops etc
  • On arrival at home:
  • Change out of clothes and shower
  • Wash uniform/work clothes on their own in the machine at 60 degrees

Please note: If you bring personal belongings to work eg lunch boxes, water bottles, phones etc handle as little as possible and always wash hands before you handle them

Social media appeals: guidance for staff

Please do not make public appeals for equipment or donations  – these are being coordinated by our Procurement and Charity Team, and communicated by our Trust Communications Team. Please contact purchasing@sthk.nhs.uk or communications@sthk.nhs.uk

The Trust’s Communications Team have issued an at a glance guide to managing social media during these times.

#HiddenHospitalHeroes

Today’s shout out goes to the Vinci FM team who have helped us to manage lots of changes to our hospitals in recent weeks.

From installing special screens in resus to ensuring all the facilities are available to make the ward moves work.

They’ve opened up space and closed off doorways and all while forging ahead with our new modular ward unit. No challenge is too big, no job is too small!!

Well done and Thank you!
