Staff Update 03/04/20

From Monday 6th April: Silver command will meet at 10.30am

     Cabinet will meet at 11.30am

Easter leave & Bank Holidays

The Easter Bank Holiday period is fast approaching, at the same time as the pressure within our hospitals is increasing.

For some staff, we will be asking that:

  • Planned annual leave for the Easter weekend 10th-13th April inclusive is postponed.
  • Good Friday and Easter Monday are deemed to be ‘normal’ working days.

This will mean that some staff may be asked to work these days and take these 2 public holidays in lieu later in the year.

Staff will receive the enhanced pay rates, in accordance with their Terms and Conditions, for working these public holidays. We have asked line managers in each area to approach staff who they consider are required to either postpone planned leave over the Easter period or work the 2 public holidays.

This will ensure that we can create additional capacity in those services where a shortage of staff would be operationally critical and continue to support our patients and colleagues during these exceptional circumstances.

Further annual leave and Bank Holiday periods will be reviewed  as the situation develops.

Staff Testing

You will have seen that in the media that so far 2000 NHS staff have been tested nationally for Covid-19. We can confirm that just over ¼ of these (507) are STHK staff.

Staff Test results

Staff must not access records to look for their own or others Covid-19 test results:

  • Do not look at your own records or those of your friends or family
  • Do not look at records for patients who are not in your care
  • Do not look at records of other members of staff who may be patients at this trust

This is a breach of the Data Protection Act and staff who are found to be reviewing data inappropriately will be in breach of their contract of employment and subject to disciplinary action. If you have any questions relating data confidentiality, please email ig@sthk.nhs.uk.

Test results are communicated as follows:

Positive result:

HWWB contact staff member, inform them of positive result and advise them to follow national guidance re self-isolation

Negative result:

HWWB contact staff member, inform them of negative result and advise them to return to work

In both instances results are entered onto Cohort and HWWB inform staff member’s line manager of the result via email.

PPE Guidance

Yesterday, Public Health England updated guidance on the use of PPE. We are currently working through their information to lay out clearly what protective equipment is required in each setting across our hospitals and community services – giving much greater clarity for staff on what precautions to take. This will be issued later today.

Scrubs – Please do not hoard scrubs or take them home:

In order to use our resource in the most appropriate way, only key teams in high risk areas should wear scrubs ie theatres, ITU, cohort wards, MET and medical team responding to arrests.

To minimise the risk of cross contamination from work to home, these teams must change into and out of scrubs at work and they are washed by the Trust’s laundry service.

If you have your own scrubs, different looking to ours, by all means wear them at work, change out of them before returning home and wash them.
